Abaca output barely growns in 2015 due to drop in Bicol production
The country’s abaca production grew by only 1.6 percent to 58,665.81 metric tons (MT) in 2015, from 57,722.11 MT recorded in 2014, according to the latest data from the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFida).
Data from the PhilFida showed that Region 5, or the Bicol region, was the country’s top abaca producer, with an output of 21,393.35 MT. However, this is lower than the region’s production of 23,511.34 MT in 2014.
Davao Region and Eastern Visayas were the other top abaca producers in the country, contributing 10,129.49 MT and 7,763.75 MT, respectively.
