7 South Korean firms eye supply deals with Filipino food companies

Seven major companies from South Korea, including its biggest fruit company, CJ Cheiljedang, are interested in tapping Filipino food companies for their requirements.

Aside from CJ Cheiljedang, the other South Korean firms interested in Filipino food products are: FF Corporation, Bar Kor, Jinsung FM, Naesung Enterprise Co. Ltd., Nature Food, and ILSHINNAPU.

In a statement, the DTI said its Export Marketing Bureau held a business matching activity between local food firms and the South Korea companies at the sidelines of the Madrid Fusion Manila 2016 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

The activity was conducted in collaboration with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Seoul, the Department of Tourism, and the ASEAN-Korea Center.

“I strongly believe that the Philippine food products have a high potential in securing competitive advantage in the global market,” said Lee Dong Go, deputy head of the ASEAN-Korea Center and head of the Korean delegation. He said the active collaboration between the Philippines and South Korea including the recent event is a reflection of the strong economic ties between the two countries.

During the event, Philippine food and beverage products such as pure sap coco sugar, coffee, calamansi products, coco water, coco products, and natural sweeteners, among others were showcased.

Among the companies whose products were featured were Mama Sita, Cocoro, Bote Central Inc., nuBlends Corp., Maharlika Agro-Marine Ventures Corp., Universal Robina Corp., Monde Nissin, Magic Melt, and Minola.

The DTI said some 20 Philippine food companies across the country participated in the event and 120 Philippine food exporters touched base with possible partners to explore business opportunities with the Korean delegates. (By: Eileen A. Mencias)
