DA to seek P200B budget in 2018
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said he will ask for a P200-billion budget next year and another P200 billion in 2019.
“…You cannot expect the DA to produce enough food for the country if we don’t have the budget to work on it,” Piñol was quoted by the Philippine Star as saying.
Piñol lamented that the Department of Agriculture is expected to feed the country with only one-third of the budget of the Department of Education and half the budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
“Our current budget now is even smaller than the budget given to 4Ps,” he said.
“Just give me money and a lot of things will happen. You want DA to produce food, give us the budget,” he added.
Piñol said the bulk of the proposed budget will be for rice production and loans and the rest for post-harvest facilities and irrigation.
