Agri sector incurs P2.89B damage from Typhoon Rosita
The damages and losses the agriculture sector incurred from Typhoon Rosita already amounted to P2.89 billion, with an estimated production loss of 144,465 metric tons (MT) and damaged agricultural areas at 111,649 hectares.
The typhoon, according to the Department of Agriculture, affects 30,810 farmers and fisherfolk.
“The increase in values are attributed to reports in rice, corn, high value crops and fisheries from Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora and Pampanga,” DA said.
As part of the agency’s intervention, the DA already deployed its regional teams to conduct field validation as well as prepositioned seed bufferstocks for rice, corn and assorted high value crops (HVC) for affected farmers.
DA will also provide insurance coverage to affected farmers as well as loan as high as P5 million.
