Community goes nuts over wildlife center’s call for nuts
Nonprofit wildlife and rescue centers often rely on donations to support their operations but this unique call for help for their furry charges mobilized a community with an outpouring of goods that blew them away.
On November 22, staff at Carolina Wildlife Center posted on their Facebook page an emergency involving the dwindling supply of acorns for the 900 squirrels in residence at the center along with a post of one of the furry creatures standing on his small stash of remaining nuts.
Seeing the animal in need, the Center was surprised at the community’s response. It was not revealed how they did it – whether they climbed trees and raided them themselves but residents came by the droves and donated enough acorns to last the squirrels until Spring.
Their good deeds did not go unappreciated by the Center’s staff and residents. The furry animals were so happy to see the stash that they can’t seem to stand still in the overflowing acorn ball pit.
We have a feeling that these furry friends will have a bountiful holiday ahead.(ANGEL ONG)
