BFAR holds first ever ‘galunggong summit’
The Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will hold the first ever National Galunggong Summit, which will take place on January 24.
With the theme “Produksyon ng Galunggong na Isda ng Masa, Paunlarin Gamit ang Siyensya,” the National Summit will gather major members of galunggong fisheries supply chain, fisherfolk representatives, concerned national government agencies, local government units, non-government organizations, and science experts.
By facilitating strategic course planning and consensus building among stakeholders while promoting science-based management actions, the Summit aims to generate relevant inputs for the formulation of a five-year science-based National Management Plan for Galunggong.
The plan should help the government address the pressing issues concerning the declining catch and production of these species and to achieve sustainable stocks of these resources which may translate to food security for Filipinos.
Approximately 800 estimated invited guests including representatives from fisheries cooperatives across the country, DA, BFAR officials and personnel, and officials/representatives from partner agencies are expected to grace the event.
