Finally time to give up the drumsticks? Study finds relationship of fried food to early death
Is it finally time to drop the drumsticks? – the chicken drumsticks that is.
A recent study published by medical journal BMJ has correlated the regular consumption of fried food to an early death, mostly due to heart diseases.
The research, entitled “Association of fried food consumption with all cause, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality: prospective cohort study,” assessed the diets of 106,966 women and analyzed their eating patterns over an 18 year period, reported The Insider. Considering the food patterns and their lifestyles, 31,588 have died with 8,358 dying of heart related disease during the period of the study.
The study noted that those who ate more servings of fried food daily had an 8 higher percent risk than those who opted for other types of food preparation.
A daily dose of fried chicken accounted for 13 percent higher risk of death and a 12 percent risk of heart related problem.
The study also cited a previous study that the regular consumption of fried foods has been associated with a higher risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. (ANGEL ONG)
