Typhoon Usman’s damage to agri sector rise to P1.18B
The agriculture sector has already bled P1.18 billion worth of its output due to Typhoon Usman, which hit the country days before the New Year.
An updated data from the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) showed that damages and losses from Tropical Depression Usman has went up from P1.08 billion to P 1.18 billion.
The typhoon also damaged as much as 25,240 metric tons (MT) of farm output, affecting crops like rice, vegetables, fish.
Damaged agricultural areas now stood at 62,331 hectares, with 56,108 farmers and fisherfolks affected.
“The increase in the overall values is attributed to reports on rice in Quezon, Capiz and Northern Samar. Field validation is still on-going in the affected regions,” DA said.
“The DA-DRRM Operations Center will continue to monitor and provide further updates on the effects of Tropical Depression Usman,” it added.
