Laguna’s first solar irrigation system turned over

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is set to inaugurate and commission today its seventh Solar Powered Irrigation System (SPIS) Project, which is located in Barangay Wawa Ibayo, Lumban, Laguna.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said the project, which will be the first for Laguna Province, will irrigate an initial area of 50 hectares which could be expanded with additional distribution pipes.

Constructed by Heal the World Corp., the project costs P5.7 million and is one of 169 units of SPIS that are being built or have been completed since the launching of the new irrigation innovation by President Rodrigo Duterte in March 2017.

Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez, mayors of Laguna, and at least 800 farmers will witness today the turnover ceremony to the Wawa Ibayo farmers group who will operate and maintain the facility.
