Zero waste sari sari stores now open in the Visayas
In the face of the mounting plastic pollution problem in the world, sari sari stores in the Visayas are partnering with SWEEP : Sea Waste Education to Eradicate Plastic in putting up zero waste sari sari stores that encourage refilling as an alternative to packaged goods.
In its announcement, SWEEP revealed that these sari sari stores have become refilling stations for items like shampoo, body soap, fabric conditioner, cooking oil, vinegar, soy sauce, and other condiments that are normally packaged in single used plastics that later pollute the oceans and pose hazards to marine life.
Customers can bring their reusable containers to fill up on the items they need at a cheaper price and all while helping minimize the generation of more plastic waste. SWEEP thanked its partners as well as the local governments in their partner locations and shared that they seek to encourage more partnerships in the future. (ANGEL ONG)
