Here’s something you must know about Macao Imperial Tea cups
BY ANGEL ONG
Macao Imperial Tea fans have something to celebrate after one of the customers of the milk tea shop discovered some good news about the cups that they use.
In a thread originally posted by Twitter user Gabreal Manuel, he shared that he noticed that the cups that Macao Imperial Tea seemed like it was made of high quality material. Upon purchase, he did not dispose of the cup and washed it at home to check what type of plastic they used.
After doing some research on the internet, he discovered that the label indicated that the material used was NO5 PP which is thermoplastic polymer. This is a type of plastic that can be reused since it has a high resistance to heat and acts as a barrier to moisture.
He aired a disclaimer that he was not a chemist to voice an expert opinion but given the results of his research, he suggested that perhaps customers can simply reuse their cups and get a P5 or P10 discount if they use their own?
A barista working for Macao Imperial Tea also shared that the lids had removable stickers and can be used as sippy type cups for drinks that had no pearls. This could minimize the use of straws for a more sustainable practice. Thanks to zero waste advocate Strawbz Ambata Baldon for compiling the screenshots.
