Company inspired by Asians’ use of leaf plates, introduces their own version to counter plastic pollution
Filipinos have been way ahead of the world when it comes to using biodegradeable plates especially in the provinces. With the concept of binalot and the use of banana leaves instead of disposable plates, Pinoys are whizzes to this biodegadeablle alternative.
It seems the world is following suit with the introduction of leaves made from leaves which cost around 50 cents each. The product, introduced by company Leaf Republic was inspired by the Asian tradition of using leaves for plates and sews together leaves to form plates that can be used no matter what occasion.
With a new product method, the company is able to produce leaf plates on a large scale, providing an alternative for the rest of world for the problem of plastic waste. (ANGEL ONG)
