Mango Festival opens at DA today
The Department of Agriculture (DA) will open the Mango Festival today as part of the efforts to address the oversupply of mango in the local market.
Done through the agency’s Agriculture Marketing Assistance Service (AMAS), the Mango Festival is the agency’s response to the request of mango growers for government support in selling their harvest after processors dropped the buying price of the fruit following a good harvest season.
Right now, there is a surplus of 2 million kilos of mangoes in the country, dampening the prices at record low.
As part of the event, affordable sweet mangoes will be sold for a few days at DA Central Office in Quezon City and the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) Compound in Metro Manila.
