Maynilad, Manila Water told to follow water interruption schedule
Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System’s (MWSS) Regulatory Office (RO) has issued a stern warning to Manila Water Company Inc. and Maynilad Water Services, Inc. regarding their schedule of water service interruptions.
MWSS Chief Regulator Patrick Ty said his office has determned that the two concessionaires have failed to observe the water service interruption schedules that they announced.
Under the Concession Agreement, Manila Water and Maynilad are required to notify their customers of any planned water service interruptions.
“While the two concessionaires may not be blamed for the current water supply situation since the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) reduced their allocation from Angat Dam, the water service interruption schedules are well within their control, and for which they may be held accountable,” Ty said in a statement.
He said the MWSS RO will consider any period of actual water service interruption, which takes place outside the schedule announced by the two concessionaires, as not having been the subject of proper notice to the customers.
“Should such non-adherence continue, this may constitute as a violation of the Concession Agreement and the MWSS RO shall recommend imposition of appropriate penalties,” Ty further said.
