Millions of Maynilad, Manila Water customers face water shortage
Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) and Manila Water Company Inc. (Manila Water) already began implementing rotational water interruption to millions of customers after the water level of Angat dam dipped further.
National Water Resources Board (NWRB) reduced on Tuesday Angat dam’s water allocation to Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) from 46 cubic meters per second (cms) to 40 cms.
It also said that assuming that the 160-meter level is breached based on the projection, another adjustment will be undertaken in the MWSS allocation because the auxillary unit will be shut down.
This, according to the agency, will lower the water pressure both for Maynilad and Manila Water customers.
As of Tuesday, the water level in Angat Dam is at 161.76 meters, which is way below its spilling level of 212 meters. The dam elevation is also projected to reach 160 meters in two days.
