Aboitiz to build floating solar farm in Tawi-Tawi
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said the beautiful fishing island of Sibutu in Tawi-tawi Province will be the first fishing community that will have a floating solar farm, which will be developed by an Aboitiz company.
The solar farm will be enough to power ice-making and cold storage equipment.
Piñol has recently met with the officials of SN Aboitiz Power to discuss the development of the floating solar farm, a new technology employed by solar power generation companies so as to minimize the use of valuable lands.
During their meeting, SN Aboitiz officials said the floating solar farms could generate enough power to run ice-making and cold storage facilities in farflung and isolated fishing communities of the country as well as generate power that could be stored in batteries to provide light to the fishing communities.
They also said the facility could serve as a huge Fish Aggregating Device or “Payao” where small fish species would gather. It could attract big fish species like Tuna.
