Greenpeace starts covenant to eat #LessMeatMoreVeg to save the planet
In order to mitigate climate change, Geenpeace Philippines has started an online covenant among netizens to shift their diets to less meat and more vegetables. This, according to the pledge is because livestock contribute as much as 14 percent to the Earth’s greenhouse gases.
“Dirty industrial meat is tearing down our forests, polluting our water, harming our health and disrupting our climate. Billions of cows, pigs and chickens are abused in huge factory farms. It’s time to tell city and government leaders no more public money for factory-farmed meat,” the petition stated.
The pledge seeks to underscore a public clamor for healthier food that are less harmful to the environment. Those who sign up are also treated to recipes, updates and ideas on how they can adopt a shift in their lifestyle and diets to make an impact individually.
