PH’s chicken egg inventory down as of July

The country’s total chicken egg inventory as of July went down, with imported stocks still overshadowing the local production.

A data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed that as of 01 July 2019, adult female inventory of native/improved chicken was estimated at 21.44 million birds, which is 5.3 percent lower compared with the previous year’s stocks of 22.64 million birds.

On the other hand, laying flock inventory of foreign strain layers increased by 9.2 percent, from 31.18 million birds in 2018 to 34.05 million birds in 2019.

The average farmgate price of chicken egg in commercial farms from April to June 2019 was also recorded at P4.65 per piece.

This was 7.2 percent higher than the average price of P4.34 per piece in 2018. During the reference quarter, the highest farmgate price was noted in June at P4.77 per piece.
