77 year old vendor pedals from Biñan to Sta. Rosa to sell ice cream daily

Being a senior citizen does not mean that one has to retire, especially if one is naturally hardworking but poverty stricken like Tatay Gerardo, a 77 year old vendor who rides his bike daily from Biñan to Sta. Rosa, Laguna to sell ice cream.

In a post by Digi Anna Mance-Avila, she said that Tatay Gerardo told her that it was good to have an education so one does not have to work like him. But she felt in her heart that it was not the case.

“No, Tay. I want to be like you in the future. You are hard-working, persistent, and full of wisdom. These are things we get not just from the classroom but outside of it. I look up to you because despite your old age, you are still able to work in order to earn a living. You may not realize it, but you deserve so much respect,” Avila said.

To help the old man go home early, Avila offered to give him a small amount of money which he gratefully accepted.

“Salamat, Nak. Makakauwi na ako. May pambili na ako ng pagkain,”the old vendor said.
