Banana leaves for ice cream cups? Why not?
A non profit organization, Initiative United, recently shared an idea on Facebook to minimize plastic waste packaging for ice creams served in cafés and restaurants which was met with different opinions from the public.
The idea was to use banana leaves folded as cups to serve ice cream cups with matching spoons made from bamboos. These biodegradable initiatives could cut back on plastic pollution, it said.
While the idea was welcomed by many, citing that this is a fitting throwback to the good old days with nature friendly packaging, there are those who worried that these might pose as a problem in terms of supply and cost.
For a country like the Philippines where banana leaves are even used as alternatives to plates, this could totally work. What do you think?
