Youth encouraged to pursue career in farming
In a bid to encourage youth to venture into farming, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has conducted a couple of activities to reach out to younger generation to promote the perks in having a career related in agriculture.
DAR said in a statement that it recently conducted a forum and an on-the-spot poster-making contest with the theme, “Kabataan, Panahon natin ngayon na Balikan at Gawing Mayaman ang Lupang Sakahan”.
DAR Undersecretary for Support Services Emily O. Padilla said the forum was conducted to consolidate issues and concerns of agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARB) families and inform them of the services that can be provided by other national government agencies while the poster-making contest was meant to showcase the talents of ARB families.
Padilla said that faced with the challenge of the aging population of farmers and the dwindling interest in farming, it is timely that the nation develops a pool of young farmers in the next years to come.
“Nais naming maging advocates sila sa kapwa kabataan to encourage them to engage in farming,” Padilla said.
“Sana kayo ang magsimula ng isang movement para sa ating bansa, sa pagtatayo ng isang young farmers’ organization,” she added.
