Chicken Sausage, not Kikiam served to athletes, hotel clarifies; Management hurls counter accusations against Philippine athletes
Whitewoods Convention and Leisure Hotel recently sent a letter to Chairman William Ramirez of Team Philippines to complain about the statements made by Coach Marneli Dimzon to the media accusing the hotel of serving only kikiam and egg to athletes who were billeted in the hotel. The letter was shared on Facebook by The Daily Tribune columnist, Paul Farol.
The kikiam fiasco was picked up by major dailies and news outfits which the hotel claimed, damaged the reputation and dignity of the Filipinos.
According to Whitewoods President and Chairman of the Board Edgardo Capulong, PhD, the menu served to the athletes was chicken sausage, not kikiam as claimed by Coach Dimzon. The hotel chief said that they did not have kikiam in their menu and even the athletes can attest that they had chicken sausage.
Capulong further complained that the Philippine Team bought Baliwag Chicken for dinner without coordinating with the facilitators of the food audit committee. He alleged that the act was a violation to an agreement that no oil or pork be served due to the sensitivity issue with Muslim and other athletes.
“Besides, our function hall is certified ‘Halal friendly’, and we don’t want to have another complaint, especially from foreign guests,” he said.
As he called out the Philippine team for allegedly casting the country in a negative light, he asked for an increase in the food budget to address complaints on food quality and quantity. (ANGEL ONG)
