Love wins: Celebs come together for KFC couple bashed by local celeb for ‘cheap’ proposal
Let’s face it. Not everyone can afford a grand romantic gesture to propose to the one they love.
But if a couple truly loves one another, then the location of the proposal shouldn’t matter, right?
This was the case for a couple in South Africa when a local journalist shared a snap of the guy proposing to his girlfriend at a KFC branch. However, instead of focusing on the joy on the couple’s faces, the journalist said that the guy had no class for proposing at a fastfood.
Luckily, the internet came to the defense of the couple and called out the journalist for being a snob. Not only that, big brands and celebrities showed their support for the couple by actively looking for them through the hashtag #KFCcouple.
KFC quickly pledged a special surprise for the pair while Woolworth prepared a 51k gift voucher for their needs. Coke pledged to sponsor all of the drinks at the reception while celebrities like Zakes Bantwini, Sjava and Amy Faku committed to perform at their wedding for free.
Local designers are also offering to make the wedding couture free of charge while celebrity planners are fighting over who should get to plan the event pro bono. Even local jewellers have pledged to gift the couple with their engagement and wedding rings to support true love.
At the end of the day, no amount of malice can defeat the power of kindness. The couple has been found and are now under way to plan their beautiful wedding. Best wishes to the #kfccouple! (ANGEL ONG)
