Palawan strengthens campaign against single-user plastic

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (ENRO) of Palawan gathered its staff to conduct a seminar on the importance of waste management and minimizing the usage of plastic.

The employees were taught proper segregation and identifying items that can be reused or recycled. This is part of ENRO’s campaign to push for Governor Jose Chaves Alvarez’s Executive Order No. 102 that prohibits the usage of plastic straws, plastic utensils, styrofoam cups and other single-user plastics in all government offices within the capital as well as in provincial hospitals.

According to Atty. Noel Aquino, chief of the Provincial ENRO, this executive order was done in support of Puerto Princesa city’s Single-Use Plastic and Styrofoam Regulation Ordinance 2019 which took effect in March 2019.

This is in line with the Governor’s order in 2016 which pushes for noon pang 2016 na naglalayong ipatupad ang ‘zero waste capitol project’. Under this order, waste segregation was imposed implemented ENRO was assigned to implement and monitor.
