Rice stocks for ash fall affected area is sufficient, safe –NFA
The National Food Authority (NFA) assured the public that there is sufficient rice stocks in areas affected by the ash fall.
“We have sufficient rice stocks in the regions and provinces affected by the ash fall.” said NFA Administrator Judy Carol L. Dansal.
Region 4 has a total rice equivalent of 1,930,000 bags; NCR has 197,000 bags, while Region 3 has 1,963,000 bags. Some provinces and areas of these regions have been affected by the ash fall from the Taal eruption.
Dansal also assured the public that these NFA rice stocks are safe for human consumption as they are stored in properly maintained warehouses, safe from the ash fall.
Along with this, the NFA administrator announced that the Operation Centers (OPCEN) in NFA central and field offices have been activated soon after the eruption and are open on 24-hour basis.
“There are NFA employees who are on skeletal force in central and field offices and in warehouses, ready to serve the requirement of the LGUs, DSWD and other relief agencies should they need rice for the ash fall victims.” Dansal said.
