ASF strikes a big commercial farm in Central Luzon
The deadly swine disease African Swine Fever (ASF) may have already made it to one corporate-owned commercial farm in Central Luzon, a top official said.
Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Director Ronnie D. Domingo said in reports that one commercial farm has began depopulating on suspected ASF case.
Domingo won’t identify the owner of the farm, but the word on the street is it may be Universal Robina Corp., one of the largest commercial hog and poultry raisers in the country.
Aside from this particular case, Domingo said that there are other commercial farms being monitored and investigated for suspected case of ASF.
So far, ASF already resulted to deaths of 230,000 pigs, which are mostly from backyard farms.
