NFA holds second rice caravan in NCR
The National Food Authority (NFA) has transferred an additional 28,000 bags of rice from Northern and Central Luzon to the National Capital Region (NCR) via a rice caravan of 28 trucks.
NFA Administrator Judy Dansal said the rice caravan will be a regular activity of the agency to continually replenish government rice stocks and effectively address all rice requirements of the DSWD, local government units and other relief agencies during the Luzon-wide Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).
The caravan was composed of 6 trucks loaded with 6,000 bags of rice from the Ilocos Region; 7 trucks loaded with 7,000 bags from Cagayan Valley; and 15 trucks loaded with 15,000 bags from Central Luzon.
All trucks unloaded its cargo at the NFA’s North District Office warehouses in Valenzuela City.
The first NFA rice caravan from Regions 1, 2 and 3 to NCR rolled out last March 26. It was composed of 30 trailer trucks loaded with 30,000 bags of rice.
Dansal said the government’s current rice inventory stands at 8.2 million bags, good to last for 120 days or 4 months, based on the NFA’s 10 percent market participation.
