DA distributes hybrid rice seeds in Nueva Ecija as part of COVID-19 efforts
The Department of Agriculture (DA) has distributed hybrid rice seeds in Nueva Ecija, one of the major rice producing provinces in the Philippines, as part of its efforts to secure the country’s supply of the main staple amid COVID-19 pandemic.
The distribution was done in coordination with Local Government Units of Aliaga and Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija and was part of the Rice Resiliency Project under Plant Plant Plant Program otherwise known as Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat kontra COVID-19 (ALPAS sa COVID-19).
The project aims to boost local rice production to attain a food-secure Philippines and to combat global trade uncertainties brought by the pandemic.
To be specific, one bag of hybrid seeds was given per hectare basis and the number of seeds must correspond to the rice area of the farmer-beneficiary.
During the distribution, mandatory wearing of face masks and observing social distancing were implemented to ensure the safety of everybody in the venue.
