MWSS-RO to ensure proper water billing during ECQ and MECQ
Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) will ensure that customers of Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Company, Inc. will be billed properly during the period of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified ECQ (MECQ).
This, as the meter reading and billing operations of Manila Water and Maynilad are already set to resume on 01 June 2020.
MWSS-RO said that it already gave some directives to both concessionaires in order to ensure that customers only pay for their actual water consumption during the ECQ and MECQ period.
These directives are to reflect the actual water consumption and corresponding charges based on meter reading in the Statements of Account (SOAS) of customers; divide the accumulated consumption by the number of months covered by the ECQ and MECQ; and verify the consumption patterns of customers, check for irregularities, and automatically withhold any SOA with observed significant deviation from these patterns for further investigation and necessary adjustment.
Moreover, the MWSS-RO has instructed the concessionaires to communicate effectively, and in a timely manner, all information concerning the aforementioned directives to customers and concerned stakeholders.
Meanwhile, the MWSS-RO encourages the public to contact their service provider and settle their SOAS in staggered amounts prior to the disconnection period in order to avoid accumulation of charges and bill shock, and to ensure continuity of services.
Disconnection period for non-lifeline accounts would August, while it is September for lifeline accounts.
