Truckloads of tomatoes, bell peppers dumped anew because of limited transport schedule
Truckloads of tomatoes have once again gone to waste after being sold at a loss by farmers in Ifugao.
A post by Ifugao Highland Farmers’ Forum recently shared snaps of tomatoes and bell peppers dumped in Bambang Nueva Vizcaya as farmers were not allowed to transport goods beyond the MWF schedule.
However, because vegetables are highly perishable because of the extreme heat of the weather, excess veggies that were not allowed to cross the borders to the markets have been dumped by farmers.
Farmers are asking for a re-evaluation of the schedule and to seek permission to deliver goods daily so that the farmers’ efforts will not go to waste, not to mention the food that could have fed hundreds of families. (ANGEL ONG)
