Typhoon Ambo’s damage to agri sector overvalued
Typhoon Ambo’s damage to the country’s agriculture sector has been overvalued and from P1.56 billion, the Department of Agriculture (DA) is now claiming that only P960 million worth of farm commodities were actually hit by the storm.
DA said that as of Thursday, the amount of damage and losses the farm sector incurred from Typhoon Ambo decreased to P960.19 million from the previously-reported P1.56 billion.
This, as it turns out that production loss is only about 44,151 metric tons (MT), not nearly 70,000 MT as previously reported.
“The decrease in the total damage and losses is attributed to the updated reports from CALABARZON and Central Luzon, particularly on high value crops and rice, after initial validation,” DA said.
The total amount also includes updated reports from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), MIMAROPA, Bicol and Eastern Visayas Regions. These values are subject to validation too.
