Barangay officials in Pampanga exposed for blocking delivery of animal feeds
The Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) has threatened to sue the barangay officials of Barangay Gutad in Floridablanca, Pampanga if they continue to block the delivery of animal feeds in their barangay.
SINAG said that for several days already, barangay officials in this town have not allowed the delivery of feeds for some 9,400 pigs.
This is a clear violation of RA [Republic Act] 11469 or the Animal Welfare Act, said SINAG Chair Rosendo So.
Last May 27, Barangay Captain Diosdado V. Vitug Jr. and some Barangay officials went to the Evergreen farm and posted a tarpaulin “No Delivery of Animal Food for Evergreen Bioscience Technologies, Inc.”
They also simultaneously set-up two checkpoints on opposite ends of the road to prevent the entry of feeds to the farm.
Last year, SINAG also filed a similar case against barangays officials in Asingan, Pangasinan for preventing the entry of feeds for a hog farm.
SINAG and the Evergreen Farm are already coordinating with the Office of Secretary Eduardo Ano and the PNP Regional Director in Central Luzon for assistance in the delivery of feeds for the said farm.
