Gov’t to serve as ‘buyer of last resort’ for Benguet’s vegetable surplus
Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar instructed the Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center (BAPTC) in La Trinidad to serve as the “buyer of last resort” of agricultural produce in Benguet province to address wastage and prevent vegetable dumping in the future.
The buying strategy, together with the recently approved construction of a P20-million Food Processing Facility, are seen to be of big help in moving and facilitating better prices on commodities produced in the province.
DA said it will be facilitating the capitalization of BAPTC to be able to buy excess produce of the farmers.
DA’s regional office in CAR will also be providing the needed production data that can be used to better link expected harvests to the market.
