PH gov’t promotes face masks made of abaca

Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture (DA), is now promoting face masks made of abaca.

The mask, named 7XB Face Mask, is produced by Salay Handmade Products Industries Incorporated (SHAPII).

It is made from abaca fiber which were converted to special filters. The filters, suitable for protection, were sewn together by 120 skillful crafters from Salay, Misamis Oriental.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 10 affirmed that the mask is seven times more efficient than a regular cloth mask.

The Abaca fiber and other natural fibers used provide better filtration, density, porosity, and water repellency than other synthetic materials.
